Harry Barnes in a superb little piece on the lessons of history.
“When we trod this land, we walk for one reason … to try to help another man think for himself. The music of our hearts is roots music, music which recalls history, because without the knowledge of your history, you cannot determine your destiny: the music about the present, because if you are not conscious about the present, you’re like a cabbage in this society.”

Incomprehensible (his tenses are all shook up!), illogical (to help another man to think for himself is a contradiction in terms), meaningless (what is “roots music” when it’s at home?), nonsensical (of course you can choose your, er, “destiny” with or without a knowledge of history) and finally, gibberish (the only people unconscious of the present are those who are, er, unconscious and, of course, various Labour politicians and councillors!
What is “roots music”? Love it Duffers, you’re priceless!
