This won’t get Clegg off the hook, it will just expose his lies

The latest stitch-up being cobbled together by the Liberal Democrats to get them off the hook over tuition fees would appear to be a suggestion that all Liberal Democrats abstain on the vote, be they members of the government or backbenchers.

Leaving aside the hilarity of Vince Cable abstaining on his own area of responsibility, this really is a farce. What Clegg and co. realise is that if they abstain, as long as they can persuade those Lib Dem MPs who have so far said they will vote against to abstain as well, the Bill will go through.

I’m not entirely sure which part of the phrase “vote against” Clegg doesn’t understand.

How right you are Bob; The rats are terrified, they’re twisting and turning any way they can to justify their support for the Coalitions student grants robbery that they are supposed to vote for in the next few days. It’s great to see Clegg and co looking as sick as parrots away from the cameras; it’s becoming obvious even to them that the unexpected backlash from the students,so soon, is the start of the battles to come over the rest of Coalitions cuts programme.Personally,I did’nt think we could build a great deal of resistance to the cuts so soon due to the huge amount of disillusionment with Bliar and the New Labour gang. But I have a feeling that there is a huge wave of opposition building up against the Coalition, and the T.U.C’s demonstration in March just as the cuts from Local Authorities and government departments are becoming apparent will be a perfectly timed vehicle for a massive protest against the Coalition. There’s a lot of work to be done to make these campaigns a success but it will be worth it to see those LibDem rats squiming as they stare jnto the face of electoral oblivion.I keep trying not to get too optimistic about events,(remembering some of the campaigns we seemed to be successful with against Thatcher)but when you reports in the press over the weekend that they think there’ll be 90,000 less jobs lost than at first feared, you know they’re running scared;and they also know there’s a strong tide running against them in local council by-election results all over the country. On a lighter note Bob, what a great result for Arsenal away from home at the weekend.Do’nt know if you’ve heard anything, but I heard a little story purporting to come from a Villa insider that Martin O’Neill(the best manager Villa ever had I.M.H.O.) is expecting to start a big job around February, after turning down an offer from West Ham.

You were doing well until the end bit. Ron Saunders was the best Aston Villa manager in living memory, no doubts about it.

He’ll be the new manager of SheffieldWednesday – mark my words!

    • bobpiper says:

And a good choice too John.

    • Gerald Allen says:

No John ; You’ve got that wrong, as there’s only one football team in Birmingham(and the magnjficent Mr O’Neill realised that was a lost cause and left)there’s only one football team in Sheffield, and they reside at Bramall Lane.Mind you I think there’s going to be a vacancy there soon.

  3. John the Teacher says:

There may be a vacancy at the lane soon given that their league form is so poor and their financial situation even poorer. Even if I wasn’t utterly biased saying that the shower from the lane are the only team in Sheffield is just wrong! Wednesday have the ground, support, history and little bit of class that are sorely lacking at the lane – and finally (hopefully) have put their recent financial problems behind them. On the other hand united have… erm none of the above!

John The Teacher; While you seem to know a bit about politics(you seem to be a worthwhile comrade to me) you either do’nt know much about football here in S.Yorks or you have’nt been following events lately Yes the only football team in Sheffield (down at the Lane) are in a poor condition on the pitch and financially;and hopefully McCabe will be back over the Pennines to support his beloved Man. Utd.; I think you are jn cloud cuckoo land if you think after all the shenanigans Hillsborough have gone through to avoid the The Official Reciever and end up with Milan Mandarich;that you are somehow better off than The Blades/Blunts.If you believe that then you’lll believe that Cable,Clegg and Bliar are fine upstanding citizens who only have the interests of the community at heart;or as deluded as Clllr Piper in thinking that A.Villla are’nt a mediocre football team. If you want to see a good, soon to be great football team in Yorkshire, get yourselves down to Elland Road and watch Leeds United.

Possibly the wrong website to go down the whole “who’s the best team in yorkshire” line. Thanks for the kind comments about my political beliefs – though it has been a while since I’ve spouted off on the internet about those. I’ve no doubts at all about what Mandaric is after – a nice tasty profit in a year or three when Wednesday are a bit higher up the ladder. I’ve no problems with that after the decade of drivel we’ve had to put up with. I’m an Owls shareholder, and will settle for the loss of my shareholder rights if it means a little more success on the pitch. I’ve been following events very closely thank you very much, and although family life and living in Sandwell restrict me to four or five games a year, I’m perfectly happy with my knowledge of South Yorkshire football. I also know that wild horses couldn’t drag me either to the Lane or Elland Road. The demise of Leeds gave me great pleasure, I’m sure Wednesday’s recent woes have given pleasure to others, I’m also sure it’ll be united’s turn before too much longer to experience the delights of league one…
