RIP Sir Bobby

The death of Sir Bobby Robson was met with a real sense of loss mingled with warmth and affection at Edbaston today, and the half-time singing of the song that became the Italia ’90 World Cup anthem Nessun Dorma was followed by a spontaneous football chant of “one Bobby Robson…”.
He always came across as a real football man, and no-one seemed to have a bad word for him. My favourite Bobby Robson story concerned his Jack Chartlon style of always getting names of foreign players jumbled up. Once when a reporter asked Newcastle forward Lomana LuaLua what Robson called him, the player replied, “Kieron Dyer, usually”.

No words can describe the integrity of the man, not to mention all the talent within the football world he helped to uncover and nurture!
A legend amongst legends, there’ll never be another…Sir Bobby Robson, you shall be missed!

The best one I hear told was by Bryan Robson, England Captain.
The manager took him to one side and informed him of the tactics to be used.
“Bobby, I want you to feed the ball through to Linekar, more”.
“I’m Bryan, you’re Bobby” came the reply.
    Bobby Robson owed us nothing.

Best comment on Sir Bobby’s passing came from a radio phone where a caller took the presenter to task for saying that he’d lost his battle with cancer.
The caller told the presenter, ‘No he didn’t – Sir Bobby won 4-1′.
Damn, its going to be an emotional day next Saturday at the Hawthorns.
