Something in the Wolverhampton water

Less than a year after two Tory councillors were forced to stand down for running a brothel, we now have two more arrested for allegedly robbing a taxi driver. They are the councillor who ‘oversees the granting of licences to taxi drivers and the setting of fares’ and his mate, the ‘chairman of the safer communities scrutiny panel’.
It’s true, I tell you.

I can understand your glee over this story but I think this particular “early morning” Tory escapade might bear further investigation.
I was working in Scotland last winter and went to a midweek Rangers match, spent all my cash and after the game had to get back to my hotel late at night. I got a taxi and agreed with the driver that we should stop at the ATM near the hotel. As I got out of the car the driver started shouting at me but I ignored him. While I was getting the money out of the ATM, queued behind 2 other people, a police car drew up and 2 policemen got out and talked with the taxi driver. Next thing I know I’m being questioned about not paying a fare and also about making racial insults to the driver. Fortunately everything was resolved although the taxi driver was not keen to give me a receipt.
Talking to friends after the incident, a good pal, whose word I trust, said that an identical thing had happened to him, in posh Henley on Thames, of all places, when he had to get back from Reading. Being the kind of guy who always stands up for himself if he thinks he is in the right, and certainly not prepared to be accused of racism, he argued with the police and he was threatened with arrest. He was also in the ATM queue,so was obviously going to pay his fare.
    Fellow blog readers be warned.

  2. Taxi for Iain Dale. Here is a story one suspects will be ignored by the Tory.
