God botherer (slight return)

No real surprise here. Ignore the petty piece of spite from that rent-a-quote bag of wind Widdecombe, the interesting comment is from the editor of The Tablet who gives one of the reasons Blair didn’t convert earlier,

“I understand that one of the issues he was concerned with, because he was so closely involved in negotiations over peace in Northern Ireland, that perhaps some people there might have been uncomfortable with the prime minister converting to Catholicism at such a time”

At least all sides will be able to distrust him equally in the Middle East.

Get baptised twice. Avoid nasty Iraqs coming up on the judgement day shit-sheet.

  2. It was the Act of Settlement. See the piece on my blog

  3. Methodist Preacher: As the Act of Settlement is to do with Royalty, and Tony Blair seeks to become the Pope and not to become the King, it has no relevance.

I could never work out why Blair was so shy re his religious beliefs. We are not so secular a society that one is pilloried for having faith- despite the best efforts of Richard Dawkins. But it has raised questions of do we want a leader who listens more to his internal religious voices than he does to the democratic ones in his own party.

  5. It just smacks of hypocrisy, the timing and everything. The Northern Ireland explanation does make sense however.

It has more to do with keeping the media on it’s feet and the money rolling in.
