Irish Rude Boys

Just back from a great weekend in Cork at the jazz festival. Highlight for Mrs P. and me were the ska, jazz, reggae, swing band Skazz. We couldn’t get in to the Skatalites on Friday night so we nipped along to Gallagher’s Bar and caught a set by Skazz… and they were brilliant. So good we popped along on Saturday to Jury’s Inn to see them again, and although it lacked the sweaty, crushed jumping atmosphere of Gallaghers, they were pretty smoky there too.
Cork was terrific, and we went down to Kinsale this morning also caught up with some jazz and a pint or two of creamy black stuff at the Swell bar there. When you consider the return fare from Brum to Cork was cheaper than a rail ticket to London, it is a weekend we will be heading back to for sure.

The Manager says that if you’re going back to Ireland, can he come with you ‘cos he’s blancoed his trainers.
But he did contend, in his usual constructive manner that jazz was, quote, “shite”.

Ernie, I don’t think his guts have recovered from the last trip we went on to Ireland… although he did nearly evacuate his bowels as the plane banked in over the Pleck.

I’ve been to the jazz festival twice Bob and it’s a cracker. Mates and I have tended to keep to the Metropole Hotel as it features so many acts of which the Live Jazz Aces are the ones I remember best. Fabulous value and Cork a fabulous city: friendly, architecturally interesting and seemed very safe too.
