Some people have alluded to the fact that Nadine Dorries is probably the biggest airhead to have been elected to the House of Commons. Tonight, on Any Questions, sadly, she proved them right. Listen to the Saturday repeat if you are really the sort of person who likes to witness road accidents.

But a really excellent piece about how Tory women MP by getting there on merit are high calibre. That also based on a radio interview – not yet aired … someone tell her what she’s doing? Nah, leave her to it!
Bob!
Just caught the Any Questions re-run. Though I certainly would NOT vote for her, think you’re being a bit hard on Nadine Dorries.
True, she wasn’t up to the standard set by Hilary Benn and Peter Tatchell. Her worst answer was re: the injunction against enviro protesters requested by the airport authority. But this strikes me as a subject on which many fellow MPs of all parties would be just as ignorant as her. Plus she had the bad luck of being the first on the panel to get hit with it.
Overall Ms Dorries was at least the equal of Charles Moore, who came across as resembling one of P. G. Woodhouse’s thicker creations. His bumbling Bible story about Noah and the Ark would have been a hoot IF it has been more coherent. And to rail against enviro protesters AFTER the worst flooding in generations was bone-headed beyond belief. Plus it tickled my funny bone that a JOURNALIST would be the only one to duck the “did you smoke the evil weed?” question!
Peter Tatchell was very impressive, on virtually every question. Strangely enough his worst answer was on the inital question re: flooding. He hit all the stops on global warming . . . but never said anything about the impact of local development in floodplains and watersheds.
THAT salient point was left to Hilary Benn, who I thought did amazing well for a government minister, whom one woud have thought should have been in the hot seat precisely because he had to represent the government. Yet no one laid a glove on him. Impressive.
I think Benn’s media appearances over the last fortnight have been stunning. For someone in the job for such a short whle his command of his brief has almost defied belief. He has got the potential to be the next Leader, despite not doing so well in the Deputy elections.
