In 21 years of victories in my Ward we have never even acknowledged we have opponents standing in an election. If they can’t be prepared to push their message, why should we. Which makes this look so pathetic.
Still, at least we now know they are worried about Cruddas.

How about giving the country a chance to decide on the next PM and deputy leader and call for a general election. Why is it that only labour members choose who rules over us all and not even the whole labour party just the MPs
Really?
In Hackney we attack our Lib Dem and Tory opponents in all our election leaflets. It works. If you disagree with a candidate’s politics you should attack them. Otherwise people aren’t aware of the choice they are faced with.
Indeed they are. Jon Cruddas has just won the Newsnight poll. Roll on June 24th!
Vote Freedom… that’s easy, all you have to do is win a general election and then you get the chance to decide who your party leader is. But as you support the racist bnp, that’s not something you’ll have to worry your head over.
Luke… why…. aren’t you proud of your own policies? Still, it’s a style, I suppose. From the look of your comments box it doesn’t appear to have gone down very well even with the moderate tendency.
Caroline, don’t get toooo excited.
As you well know Mr Piper the timing of the General Election is down to the government and they only hold them when they think they can win or in the case of this government for the maximum length of time.
Tony Blair did say he would be serving a full third term and yet again lied to the British people now instead of just calling other people names. What about tackling issues in which we need to put the British people first. Or will you turn on anyone even your own (Mrs Hodge) who dare suggest putting forward the truth of what happens in this country.
a GURHKA VC HERO isnt allowed into the country because he doesnt have enough ties with the country according to the governmental system yet we have been flooded with immigrants (economic and illegal) which we are told we need. Why do we need them when we have a million and more unemployed.
Now instead of calling folks names why doesn’t yours and the other parties tackle the issues.
p.s.
Don’t you get to choose your party leader wether you win the election or not. Just look at the Tories they are forever picking new leaders …
Precisely. The Tories were not obliged to ask the nation who their leader should be. Blair said he wanted to do a full term, well good for him, but we don’t elect a President we elect our MPs. As I recall Blair didn’t stand in my constituency. I voted for my local Labour MP and if he stands down during the term of the Parliament we will have a by-election. But if he was a Minister and gave up the job we wouldn’t be calling for a by-election.
As for name-calling I don’t recall calling you any name at all.I think the decision on the Ghurka was stupid, if you must know, but it is hardly appropriate for the racist bnp to take up his case.
Difference between the Tories picking a leader and the Labour party picking a leader is the leader which the labour party choose and the party didn’t get a choice now did they ? Is also then by default Prime Minister of the country.
As for the BNP unlike other organisations they are a legitimate democratic party with at the moment an estimated voting base of a million people. sonsidering 340,000 people voted for them from a coverage of 25% of the country.
So who are you to say that the BNP can not comment on anything. Isn’t that a facist ideal on who and who can not comment. Even a hint of Nazism making one class of people ( the british nationalist ) less worthy than others.
In the case of the VC HERO having listened to the phone in on five live every respondent asked the same question why is a VC HERO not allowed into the country yet immigrants make easy access to the country. So it is a topic which everyone has the same view point on.
I’m with you on this Bob although not, you’ll no doubt be gobsmacked to learn, on choice of candidate (Benn’s my preference). Negative campaigning when it descends to vulgar personal insult isn’t very clever especially when, as in this case, the electorate consists of people who are profoundly interested in politics…
Which American president was it who, when asked why he had never named his opponent during the election campaign, said something like ‘ there must be some Americans who’ve never heard of him and I’m certainly not going to tell them’? Answers on a postcard please…
Vote Freedom…. I never said the fascists couldn’t comment. It would be helpful if you would read what I said before you engaged your fingers.
As for… “Difference between the Tories picking a leader and the Labour party picking a leader is the leader which the labour party choose and the party didn’t get a choice now did they ? Is also then by default Prime Minister of the country.”
Well, it’s difficult to know what you mean by that. For someone who is so proud of being English, you could at least take the trouble to learn the language.
Ok I will rephrase what i wrote for you.
There is a great difference between the opposition party and the governing party when they decide to choose a new leader.
Simply because the governing party will not only be choosing the leader of the party but also the next PM.
(you with me so far)
Now how democratic is it, that the future leader of the country is decided by only a select few from country. It didn’t even go to the national Labour party to vote on it was simply a coronation decided upon by the labour MPs.
Now do you find this to be fair ? Do you feel if the new Prime Minister wants to have any credibilty his first job should be is to go to the Queen and have a General Election called. So we can all decide on who we want as our Prime Minister.
And Yes I know the Tory party did the same with Mr Major and I would have said the same then. I only hope that History doesn’t repeat itself. A fourth victory which led to a shambles of a government which brought the country to its knees. Because thanks to this Labour government I don’t think we could possibly get any lower.
And even if there was a GE dont be thinking that I am happy with either choice that we would get any way.
You’re talking nonsense. The constitutional position is that the Queen invites the Leader of the largest Party in the House of Commons to form a Government. That is what will happen when the Leader of the largest party is Gordon Brown next month. It is hardly Gordon Brown’s fault that so many Labour MPs thought he was the right person to lead them that there was no contest in the Party.
As you support the fascists I don’t expect you to be happy…. nor much care whether you are or not!
Ok. So my thoughts don’t matter.
What about the rest of the population who voted thinking they was having one person to lead the country and now have another fousted upon them.
p.s.
Most scholars agree that a “fascist regime” is foremost an authoritarian form of government,
Much describes the NU labour government. (rolls eyes)
P.S.
I would like to say one thing though. I would like to thank you for at least giving all views a chance, something that many other sites could learn from.
Luke went into a meltdown yesterday by stepping up his attacks on Cruddas and lashing out at all and sundry. The only person damaged by this is Hazel, whose campaign is so prominently backed by Akehurst.
Ken Livingstone is the Labour mayor of the city that Akehurst is a Labour councillor in.
To suggest that having Ken Livingstone’s backing is a reason not to back Cruddas is unbelievably sectarian and foolhardy.
Bob, aren’t you somewhat dismayed that Cruddas sends his son to an exclusive Catholic school rather than the local “bog standard Comprehensive” that other workers are forced to send their children to!?! Is he just following Diane Abbott, Tony Blair and Harriet Harman!?!
http://ukcommentators.blogspot.com/2007/05/cruddas-capers.html
It’s the Luke Akehurst’s of this world that have destroyed the Labour party, and now they want to consign it forever to the grave. I’ve never understood why the Hazel Blears’ of this world never just joined the Tory party, as it’s clear that’s there true natural home.
Funnily enough “John Cruddas – Red Ken supports him therefore you shouldn’t” is the line I take.
But then I’m an evil Tory.
