Tolkein Statue

tolkein.jpgBirmingham City Council’s Planning Committee are being recommended to accept a proposed 25ft statue of an Ent to celebrate the Lord of the Rings author JRR Tolkein’s links with the City. It has proved to be a controversial proposal, as you can read here, but finally the statue, which has been designed by the author’s great nephew, the metalwork sculptor Tim Tolkien, looks set to get the go ahead on Thursday.
After the sad demise of our own Bearwood traffic island sculpture, I’m absolutely certain that if the good citizens of Moseley don’t want the Ent statue… we would gladly give it a home.
