A cracking Xmas for the Pheonix 4 (tune)

It will come as some relief to those 6,000 plus employees who lost their jobs last year to know that it won’t be a miserable Xmas in the homes of The Phoenix Four, the former owners of MG Rover,

who are set receive millions of pounds after clawing back over £16m from the taxman in the same year that the company collapsed.

That’s the Phonix consortium put together by Birmingham millionaire and councillor (now Lib Dem MP) John Hemming who paid the grand sum of £10 for the company.

  1. Bob, a bit unfair on John Hemming. I am not sure that John profited at all from any of this £16 million, and as I recall, the government (your Labour government) was just as keen on the Phoenix consortium as anyone else.

I’m sure they were, but then they didn’t try to hog all the credit and then crawl away like salted snails blaming everyone else when it went tits up.

I saw the picture of John Towers in the BBC article and was struggling at first to recall where I’d seen him before.
