I see Wee Willie was slipping and sliding all over the place on Marr's show this morning on the subject of Ashcroft. Time to show the twerp again, head sweating profusely as Paxman tries to get a straight answer out of him. How do you know when William Hague is lying... his lips move! (A special bonus here - Paxman shows the Tories have form).

Compare and contrast the Ashcroft question for the Tories is with Gordon's (alleged by Watt) Secret £50,000pa Fund, or Labour receiving donations from various Non-Dom peers or from Block-Vote weilding Trade Unions ?

Yes, it is an interesting comparison.

Brown was asked a question, and gave a definite answer. That indicates Watt is a liar (which should answer Iain Dale's question when he asked us to believe, before he was trying to make money out of him, that Peter Watt is either an incompetent fool or a liar)

The Trade Unions are open about their donations, and they are based in this country. And there is no law against non-dom Peers making political donations.

In contrast, Hague sweats and squirms in his y-fronts and tries desperately NOT to give a truthful answer to the question... about whether or not Ashcroft has kept his promise to become resident and pay tax in this country.

Thanks for pointing out that sharp contrast.

"Brown was asked a question, and gave a definite answer. That indicates Watt is a liar..."

No - it indicates that ONE OF THEM is a liar. Without evidence (from, say, a properly constituted investigation into the allegations), neither you nor I can say which one.

You are more inclined to believe your "Dear Leader", I am not.

It is, though, unlikely that we will find out the truth.

Hmmm.
It remains to be seen whether Brown or Watt is telling the truth.

Your interpretation of the donations question would seem somewhat partisan and personality based.

Fergus, Charlie, for once I was taking Iain Dale's word for it. He said the man is either a liar or an incompetent fool. As the man has screwed a lot of money out of idiots who have bought his book he doesn't sound like a fool (although they may be)... so that just leaves... a liar!

The Conservatives have had the same reply for months. You would think that someone would have the nerve to ask Ashcroft to sacrifice a bit of his privacy for the good of the party and confirm that he is indeed resident in the UK for tax purposes. I'm sure he is, given that he undertook to do so when his peerage was awarded and I wouldn't want to think that Milord Ashcroft was anything less than honest. Still, nobody has asked him. Funny that, isn't it?
