Putting a shift in   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

I think it was Woody Allen who said something along the lines of... "the world is run by people who turn up". Well, if it's true, I guess my MP, John Spellar, would be right up there with the world's leaders on the top table, because today he sent out a press release which revealed that only Dennis Skinner, with an attendance rate in Divisions of 96.3%, could match Spellar.

Say what you like about the man, and I say plenty, he puts a shift in.

(PS - He reads this from time to time, so I'm pleased to be able to embarrass him by saying something uncritical. Hostilities will now be resumed).

It's not only his House of Commons attendance that is impressive either. His attendance at constituency surgeries, and other local events is equally impressive, and when I returned home from a recent spell in hospital, who was one of the first people to come knocking on the door to wish me well? John Spellar!
I, like you, have had, and probably will continue to have disagreements with him, but I cannot fault his dedication to the job, and the genuine good fellowship he shows towards his constituents.

and I thought it was just me as far as hostilities and MP are concerned.

Personally Bob I think it's worth making a criticism of Mr Spellar that he turns up so much.

Let's face it: things would often be better if he didn't bloody show up!

One could have a certain sympathy with Ian's sentiments but I have a sneaking admiration for the old fixer. The thing about Spellar is ...

... he is what it says on the tin (or something like that).
