Driving back from Yorkshire this morning, basking in our rare, but magnificent victory over Durham yesterday, I heard the Damien MacBride interview on Radio 5 Live.
Much of it seemed to veer between self-pity and self-justification, but two things in particular stood out.
Firstly, it appears he hilds out hopes of a return to the Civil Service at some time in the future. Now, I am all for sinners repenting and all that, but even given the lamentable state of our civil service, surely there is no way back for MacBride in the wake of 'those' e-mails?
But secondly, I was struck by his response when he was accused of being Gordon Brown's 'attack dog'. He said that you could talk to any editor or political reporter and ask them to name one incident where he was responsible for politically rubbishing an oponent, either within the Labour Party or in other parties. Given the number of people who accused MacBride of exactly that (in the media, I mean, not just the morons who lurk on Staines' or Dale's comment sections) surely someone will be coming forth with the evidence to expose MacBride's untruth?
I see the man who invented blogging just rubbishes MacBride, and says, nod, nod, wink wink, everybody knows he did... but it would carry more conviction if he had done what MacBride challenged him to... give us the example!
It was a fine victory indeed. But there is no mention of Yorkshire-free England's even finer victory over Australia - what a match!
Otherwise, spin-doctoring is more subtle than directly naming victims for attack. After all, Alastair Campbell didn't exactly name Dr David Kelly, did he?
ifabloke... I think we would have won even more comfortably with Adil Rashid in the team. He is sometimes quite expensive, but always looking to take wickets. And my 'tip for the top' is young Bairstow. That kid keeps wicket brilliantly for one so young.
Also, it is difficult to see how you could rubbish a political opponent without actually telling the journo who you were talking about. As for David Kelly, he pretty much outed himself after he had told his story to Gilligan.
