Yet another example of the joys of privatisation:

The launch of Birmingham City Council’s new website, which was supposed to make it easier for people to pay bills and keep track of council tax payments, has been delayed by months after red-faced officials discovered the new system refused to recognise pound signs.

UPDATE: Interestingly, the Media Watch page of Birmingham City Council's new website appears to have missed this story so far.

Yep. From my dealings with various Capita subsidiaries your post title pretty much sums them up.

How's things with Sandwell's IT outsourcing? I hear BT/Liberata(?) aren't all they're cracked up to be?

Someone I know there told me they needed around 3 perfectly acceptible laptops for around £700 from, but were told they had to buy them through that duo for £1500(ish) each.

Perhaps they thought the pound would be gone and we have the dollar sign, well we have sold out to the $ in the past...
