Things can only get better…

All the pundits and commentators are saying that things can’t get any worse for Labour. Well, if this is a crisis…

… then there is no need to panic… just yet!
Update: As the afternoon wears on it would appear that Boulton and co. have cocked it up completely, and things have indeed not got better.

Interesting to note the voting figures for each party are not a million miles away from the 2004 local election figures.Even if you feel the parties will poll similar numbers at next year’s general election it’s pretty nip and tuck in terms of Cameron getting a working majority.Plenty still to play for….improving economy, a bit more focus on Tory policies instead of froth etc…

Oh dear, what a pity, never mind!

Bob, what do you think will be the next attack on GB will be?
I’m wondering how long it will be before a big deal is made about the amount of unelected Cabinet Ministers?
It doesn’t seem to gel with his promises to ‘renew democracy’ and return power to the legislature. Doesn’t this trend marginalise the PLP even more?
    Interested in your thoughts…

    Forgot to add:
I’m surprised, looking at some of those names who did get a promotion today, that someone like Jon Cruddas was overlooked. Too far to the left?

Not sure, Adrian, or whether he just didn’t want it again. I think you’re right about unelected Cabinet ministers… but that should be resolved by abolishing the Lords anyway.
As it turns out, the final Sky News anaysis of the local government elections shows that the Tories, even taking into account Labour’s dreadful showing yesterday, could only just form a government. I think our position will improve anyway, but watching Cameron struggling to keep a bunch of Eurosceptics and Ken Clarke Europhiles away from each other’s throats would be quite good fun if it did turn out that way.

Bob, you raise an interesting point there in your last paragraph. I think we can safely say that all things being considered, the Tories are currently between fifteen and twenty points in front of Labour*. And yet, as you (and the Evil Spawn of Satan Broadcasting Company) point out, this would mean that they would be only just be able to form an administration. I wonder if this is a reflection on how the electoral system has been skewed against the Tories, or just a quirk of how the FPTP system works?
*i.e. about twice as popular as a percentage of the overall figure.
