Not long after that, Smithson suggested that David Cameron was making the issue of female MPs... wait for it... his Clause 4 moment.
Less than a month lapsed before Smithson asked whether Cameron's little remembered policy programme "Built to Last" was his (yawn) Clause 4 moment.
We then had a brief respite, with Smithson asking whether Gordon Brown was considering allowing the rats who joined a sinking ship to rejoin the Labour Party, and if so, was this Gordon's Clause 4 moment.
Then, earlier this year, the wheel had nearly turned a full circle when Smithson suggested that bringing Ken Clarke back in to the Tory front bench would be Cameron's Clause 4 moment.
Do you think, by any chance, Mike Smithson has been deeply affected by Blair's Clause 4 moment? Just wondering.
