Of all of the salacious nonsense that has been repeated in this weekend's newspapers, I think Frances Osborne has the greatest cause for complaint. I know nothing about the woman, nor her health, but the suggestion in the McBride/Draper e-mails that they should use rumours relating to her health as a way of making political capital was beneath contempt.
The repetition of those rumours in the newspapers was also a disgrace. They could just have easily had their stories by saying "the wife of a senior Conservative".
"the wife of a senior Conservative".
Of course they could have said that Bob, but didn't you hear Andrew Neil this morning on 'Today' defending the industry.
When your point was put to him eg. that the names of the individuals targeted need not have been published, he made the massive leap to say that we didn't want to be like France where the press and Govt colluded with each other to cover up.
Remind me - what is his proper day job? Anything to do with newspapers by any chance?
Btw. I've enjoyed your thoughts on the latest uproar, and that Dale...!
Words like hypocrite don't quite do him justice.
What's worse is that even with the information we've had we still haven't got the whole story.
Both the Times and the NOTW have said that most of the smears were far too libellous to even hint at. Something the Coffee House has said has actually worked as a damage limitation exercise for McBride ironically - as we'll never know just how low he was prepared to go.
*Off Topic*
I notice that Tom Harris doesn't have a link on your blogroll? Is that because of some pretty huge policy disagreements? I notice many Labour members don't like him though, something i've been led to believe is because he's not a left winger at all, he's clearly a centrist.

Bob. For the first time ever I find myself in the uncomfortable position of agreeing with everything you have said in a posting. Don't worry though, I expect normal service will shortly be resumed.

I agree with you, Bob and this episode shows up the amateurishness of those in 'power'and their introduction to web politics.
