Labour List   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

Well, despite a luke warm response from the world's leading political blogger, Labour List is up and running.

To a certain extent Iain Dale's criticism appears valid in as much as the site looks as if it is very New Labour-ish, but in truth, after about 14 years of New Labour it hardly qualifies as 'new' anymore. His other point about it failing to really have a cutting edge if it just becomes a Labour leadership fan club is equally valid. We've already got that with Luke anyway.

So, I'll add it to the links and give it a warm welcome.

UPDATE: Looking at the comments over at Iain's place I would say that Derek has succeeded with his first intention.... poke the Tories with a stick and see how they react, and its been pretty effective... although half of the comments appear to emanate from that batty old witch JuliaM, so as usual you can discount them. Also, I suspect the big success of Iain Dale's blog is because it is written by a Westminster insider who gets the gossip. Labour List's contributors looks ideally placed to challenge that.

Thanks Bob, although Ken Livingstone is hardly new Labour. Also new contributors will be announced on Monday which further reflect the breadth of the party, so people should, to an extent, wait and see. But thanks for your warm welcome, and as you can see you're on our blogroll too. The launch breakfast is on 12th february and you will be getting an invite (it will also be available online)

Well, set Phasors to Spin and let's see what occurs.
Best wishes to them.

Dale's criticisms have far more to do with his self-infatuation than they do with the new website. That said, he has a point, even if he doesn't quite realize it fully... While the 'list' may be good enough to provide the inside gossip some poeple are looking for, the format isn't open enough to unlock the potential of bloghosting sites for real grassroots activism in a way that Kos or TPM have in the US. But then I'm just a transatlanticist with an axe to grind.

What are Labour doing for savers? Ultimately if banks are to lend someone must save. We can not go on depending on savers in the Far East. Also with a huge increase in the retired we need people to save for retirement.
Forget about the poking the Tories and other pointless political activities you politicians love - get serious - what are Labour doing for savers?

A grassroots alternative to LabourList has launched today. LABOURIST.org has the same content (which Derek kindly agrees to share) but without the heavy handed comment moderation. We welcome open and lively debate from everyone, not just the Labour minded.

Dear Bob

Really enjoyed your blog; more or less what I expected, I am pleased to say. May I be presumptious and suggest a small modification to your strapline? Not New Labour, not old Labour, just Crap Labour. See you at the General Election.

Bob,

I wanted to get your views regarding your party's complete and utter refusal to listen to your self appointed medical / drug advisory panel. In recent weeks, you've done it twice with Cannabis and Ecstasy. Whilst I don't partake in either, I really feel that someone in your pathetic excuse for a party should provide an explanation, although this hasn't yet been forthcoming. Your party seem to be suggesting that despite spending hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of pounds paying these highly experienced medical professionals, you as MP's know better. I'd go as far to suggest that the Labour government is actually far more harmful to the people of the UK's health than cannabis and ecstasy. Please give us your views.....

Derek Draper is the right man to run LabourList. And Gordon Brown is the right man to run the country. Both have been doing a fantastic job, and are helping the Conservative cause hugely.

Newscounter has conducted an initial evaluation of Labourlist and found that the site is outperforming most people's expectations: http://bacatu.blogspot.com/2009/02/labourlist-on-course-to-be-top.html

Any comment about of stage two of the ‘master plan’ concerned with developing a website designed to publish slander on red rag under the name of a ghost writer?

Obviously without knowledge of Browning Street, who never know anything their people are doing when they are caught. Surprised they haven’t distanced themselves from the chancellor economic policies yet.
