An explanation for why the world's most famous political blogger didn't get selected this time around, do you think....?

"Care needs to be taken over the candidates that have the potential to embarrass the Party - there will now be a fortnightly meeting to assess the watch-list of candidates, and the reasons they are on the list needs to be taken into consideration."

"The public output e.g. blogs, websites, press releases of candidates will [sic] now to be monitored by a new member of the CRD team," the minutes read. "Let JM or Stephen Gilbert know if there are any problems with candidates - de-selection should be the last option."

Pretty much lacking in analysis or logic even by your own moronic standards Wayne. As this posting refers to the Conservative Party your comment makes no sense at all (am I not surprised?). Could it be you were so stupid you commented under the wrong posting? Are you not back at school yet? Naughty boy.

Political party keeps an eye on its candidates - shock! Hold the front page!! Even by Michael Crick's standards, this is a non-event.

Oh, and I think the reason that Mr Dale hasn't been selected for a seat is that he hasn't put himself forward for any (feel free to correct me on this). Bit difficult to be turned down if you're not there in the first place.

Given that Iain Dale has expressed his support for terrorists, in the Massacre of Innocents, it is just as well he was not selected.

Yes, but if you did apply to Maidstone & the Weald constituency, and you did get rejected at the first hurdle, that would not apply.

Consider yourself corrected, Fergus.

Could it be that Tory Central Office heard he supported The Hamas?.........

He'll have to explain how his climate change "scepticism" & hostility to anything even remotely environmentally friendly fits in with Camoron's new green Toryism.

Fair enough, Bob - I'd forgotten about that. My main point still stands though - would you (or even Michael Crick) expect a party to show no interest in what it's candidates are saying?

That depends on whether you consider heavily monitoring and considering expulsion the same as 'no interest'. Perhaps that was why Dale was snubbed... he wanted to speak his mind rather than be a Party automaton.

Just as a matter of fact, I was not rejected at the first hurdle in Maidstone (more than a year ago). I was shortlisted for interview after 150 (I think) people applied. I got down to the last twenty.

I haven't applied for a seat now for more than a year. Perhaps that is why I don't get selected. Just a thought.

Quite right, Iain, depending upon what you think the 'first hurdle' is. The real position was that you didn't get past the first interview which is not quite the first hurdle, but as near as dammit.

Of course, not been selected could have been related to your success in turning a Lib Dem - Tory marginal in to a large Lib Dem majority.
