UKIP reject fascist electoral pact   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

It's not often I can think of anything nice to say about UKIP, but the news that they have rejected overtures from the fascist BNP for an electoral pact is to be highly commended.

The approach apparently came from former tennis loser Buster Mottram, a UKIP member with a long history of association with extreme right-wing views. Mottram, who has now been expelled from UKIP had in the past endorsed the National Front and if I recall correctly had attempted to be selected as a Conservative Party candidate on at least one occasion without success.

UKIP leader Nigel Farage said: "There are no circumstances, no possible situations, in which we would even consider doing any type of deal with the BNP whatsoever."

Good for you!

The thing is, I've never regarded UKIP & the BNP as having anything in common, just like UKIP's Daily Mail & "libertarian" wings have little in common.

But they're all, without exception, twats. I'm anti-EU myself, but I wouldn't dream of taking alongside the sort of inadequates you'll find on the blogosphere supporting them.

That's nice, especially about the bloke who wrote the press release being quoted there.

I'm sure he didn't mean you, Tim.

Partly I don't like the incessant hysteria that emanates from "libertarian" & Mail-reading blogs.

But more than that, it's the climate change "scepticism" & the general scorning of the idea that conservation is important that is almost universal amongst UKIP & LPUK types.

You can sneer or shout abuse according to taste, but it's a fairly big deal to me what happens to our environment & the environment worldwide.
