I wouldn't normally refer people to the Adam Smith Institute, but frankly, I agree with them on this, Time to Raise Personal Allowances. It would highly effective in putting money in the hands of the lower paid.
Well said Bob, from what I can work out the VAT cut will not help middle and low income earners out much, whereas a personal tax allowance rise would have.
Absolutely 100% agree with you Bob. I have said for some time now that the best way to help the lowest income bracket is raise the tax free threshold and remove them from taxation altogether.

Thatcher did she not put the rich at 60% or is my memory really going bad. Major cut it to 40% and Blair said no tax increases watch my lips no tax increases.
Bob, it makes me cry to think how much easier life would be if I had £100 extra a month to spend on my family, the bills and so on.
I would have had a spring in my step, a smile on my face and a much happier Christmas. I suspect the staff at Woolworths would have had a better Christmas also.
How about you shout at any MP you know to get this in the pre budget report debate? It is not quite to late to do something useful!
Robert, your memory fails you. Lawson put the top rate down to 40% under Thatcher, not Major. And it was President Bush (senior) who said "Read my Lips: No more taxes".
