Did Cameron deliberately snub our troops in Iraq?   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

I didn't see David Cameron's speech today, but I did just catch what the BBC described as the 'highlights' on the BBC's Today at Conference.

Did Cameron really devote a whole section of his speech to "Our brave soldiers in Afghanistan' and not once mention those that he voted to send to fight, and maybe die, in Iraq? Perhaps the war in Iraq is no longer popular enough for the boy David to want to attach his name to.

He even devoted a section to the Ghurkas, for heaven's sake! Over a bloody century of being snubbed, largely by a Tory Government (they even fought in the old witch's Falklands War) and yet this tinpot Etonian wants to take up their case in search of a bandwagon to jump aboard.

Lower than a snakes belly, I say. Why Gordon Brown wants to 'involve' this cretin in any discussions on the economic situation is beyond me. At least Vince Cable knows what he is talking about.

Bob, so the old witch raises her ugly head again. What is it with Labour? Shes been out of power for 18 years now, and Nulabour have had 11 years to put right the injustices that she was supposed to have carried out.

And The Falklands War was over in a month; Tonys war in Iraq has already been going on for five years and theres still no end in sight. I suppose that this is Maggies fault too?

Labour's electoral success was built squarely on forgoing that silly adolescent nonsense about 'evil Maggie' etc. I personally thought she was awful and dangerous but can recognise that far, far more people think she was wonderful than agree with me or you Bob.

The more visible and voluminous the anti-Maggie stuff the more votes Labour gift to Cameron (many times more than they shore up on their own side by doing it). Why Labour supporters don't realise this always baffles me....?

no more than lab are responsible for sending under equipped troops into both Afghanistan and Iraq due to no money being available for body armour ammunition AFTER SPENDING 2.3 BILLION ON CIVILLIAN MOD HEADQUARTERS

Jay DON"T SHOUT... it's rude!

Liam... "Why Labour supporters don't realise this always baffles me....?" Read snapper, (above) it's because it is so much fun winding up the foam-mouth brigade, that's why.

I don't know what your evidence is for more people admiring Thatcher, though. I have none, but I suspect Labour's 11 years in office owes more to the hatred of Thatcher than any other single thing.

I'm sure it is fun but I also think it's self-defeating. Most psephologists agree that the massive uplift in Labour vote in 1997 was from previous Tory voters so hatred of Thatcher certainly isn't a factor.

Bottom line is when Blair was warmly praising her and inviting her to tea (not to mention aping aspects of her economic policy) Labour were sitting on a 20+ point lead and looking safe for a generation - now that the old hostility & hatred is back to the fore they're looking at a 20pt deficit, losing by-elections and facing electoral meltdown.

A more smug Tory than I might conclude "keep 'winding us up' then pal, it works for us!"

Bob,

You're doing it again! Maggie had been gone for 7 years when Tone came to power. The electorate dumped Major and Tory sleaze (only to have it resurface in the form of Mandy's shennanigans a few months later).

She's only a 'monster' in 2008 because the left keep using her as a bogeyman. Move on for God's sake.

I've no doubt the thought of another round of Thatcherism did keep New Labour in power, sadly to many cannot now remember her.

But it's sad to see Labour still having lunch with the dotty old cow to ask her advice on world matters. Brown hopes she is in touch with Dennis and perhaps can get a view from above.
