Well done Yol   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

Much excitement in the Piper household today as we watched a re-run of the Olympic closing ceremony on Sky+.

Not excitement because of the ceremony, because frankly I think I would pay good money not to have to sit through an opening or closing ceremony of anything. Nor about the quite shocking segment from London (with one exception). Whoever thought a bus, acrobats with umbrellas, a privet hedge, and an aging, gurning rocker singing to a young woman - in the week that Gary Glitter's image has been flashed around the world - was a good idea needs their bumps feeling, and should not be allowed anywhere near the 2012 arrangements.

No, our excitement came when the British flag was raised and the national anthem was sung. Whaaaat... You may scream! Well, one of the people chosen to sing the anthem inside the stadium was my son's girlfriend, Yolande, who just happens to be in Beijing with the National Youth Theatre.

Well done Yol, we were proud of you, and we'll keep a copy for the lad until he gets back from his travels.

What's wrong with Jimmy Page, Bob? He can't help Glitter's vile exploits, can he?

No, Paul, he can't. I just thought it was an unfortunate message to send.

To be honest, I thought our effort was very poor when compared to that of the Chinese, lets hope this is not a sign of things to come.

I was honoured that Pagey was chosen- and like most Zeppelin fans, happy to see a tradition of taking musical risks by working with diverse artists. I wish he had been working with Planty- but hopefully that is to come.

BTW Bob, no truth in the rumour that Pagey performed in front of a privet hedge because his contract always requires him to work with a plant nearby....*gets coat*

Very decent of you to offer, newmania, but I think I'll decline if you don't mind.

You Tories do have some peculiar habits.

The Chinese opening and closing ceremonies were incredibly naff - did anyone there actually sing live, because they all looked like they were miming?

I managed to contain my excitement through a combination of not supporting "Team GB" (I'm English, not British) and having absolutely zero interest in the whole event. I can't believe that Prudence Brown is still intent on spending £9bn hosting the games when he's bankrupted the country and the global economy is going down the shitter.
