Bob Piper has been a Labour Councillor for the Abbey
Ward in Sandwell, West Midlands, for nine years. He is a lifelong supporter of Aston Villa Football Club and a follower of Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
The views expressed here are mine in a personal capacity, not those of the Labour Party, Sandwell MBC, Aston Villa or Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Get it! Mine... just mine!
I think it was Neil Kinnock who said something about "loyalty being a fine quality, but in excess it fills political graveyards." With more examples of flying brown stuff heading towards a fan, how much longer will David Cameron continue to support Caroline Spelman... Caroline Spelman denies fresh sleaze claims.
Given the speed with which Cameron acted to get rid of Patrick Mercer (race), Derek Conway (financial sleaze) and Den Dover (ditto), to avoid any whiff of the Major years, Cameron's defence of Spelman is quite remarkable.
I doubt it, Rob. Say what you like about Bob but he sticks it to the Tories whenever they start having difficulties. I very much doubt you'll find many Tory blogs covering this, let alone calling for Spelman's head.
The guy has his hands full at the moment, according to the BBC "Cameron tackles 'broken society'" When he's sorted that he can get back to the less important stuff. You've got to admire the fellow, if he's not posing in his shorts for some passing photographer he's off sticking his beak into some war or other. What's the betting the voters get sick to death of this vain nincompoop and go back to good old boring reliable Gordon.

David Cameron made a rod to beat his own back when he failed to get rid of Mercer once and for all.
When Mercer's friend Rod Liddle gave Mercer an interview Liddle conveniently asked the question "is David Cameron a man of principle", an opportunity to support the Tory Party was lost when Mercer responded to that question with a two fingers gesture and a seemingly begrudging "He is the leader" reply.
Later he joined up with Gordon Brown much to the fury of Tory grassroots in what could be considered to be another two fingers gesture to Cameron or perhaps an act of treachery was perceived by Tory grassroots that called for his resignation.
I understand that Mercer wanted to go "even further into the heart of Labour", his offer was politely declined.
Patrick Mercer is seen as a loose cannon by some constituents, scandal over his remarks about the Dunblane massacre in a primary school, scandal about how kids should be taught to handle a gun, scandal about his indifference in which it was said he could see nothing wrong with the racial insults.
Seemingly Mercer works for organizations that use the very same Big Brother technology that Mr Davis said we should bring to an end. Patrick Mercer connected to such organizations supporting a challenged to Big Brother entirely put the kibosh on any belief I had that Davis is entirely sincere.
It would seem that very little changed for Mr Mercer he continues to be the unelected Armed Forces representative but I think Mr.Ingram was correct to say "I believe that he is guilty of opportunism, and I honestly and genuinely think that he is adopting a politically dishonest posture."
Mr. Ingram also said of Mercer "In effect, he is saying that all our senior military planners and chiefs of staff and all the NATO planners got it wrong", this from a man that said if we want peace vote for war.

They are not taking bets actually. I see the Labour Party are attacking on the basis of a hidden tax cutting agenda . This is flat out wrong and I think young Robert covered that very well. Whether he can keep this line depends variables we cannot know but he is certainly sincere.

Whats the betting voters go back to boring reliable Gordon.Stroll on!
Boring yes, reliable... only in the sense that give him a decision to make, he will dither and dither and then make the wrong one.
Personal attacks on Cameron will have as much resonance as the Tory toffs campaign. It will fail . The electorare are sick of Labour and want them out.

Poor Gordon taking the flack for all Tony's mistakes.Where is he now?? Ian DuncanSnith fro president oops PM
Godzilla.
"Personal attacks on Cameron"..
What? Are you real?
Cameron is master of the venomous vitriol, and has done everything possible to undermine GB's professional and personal life, and is a thoroughly nasty piece of work.
The electorate may well be disenchanted with the PM, just like they were with Cameron less than a year ago. Things can change, and GB still holds the cards to turn things around. Those of us who lived through the Tory years are still incredibly hostile at the thought of that posing chancer being in charge.
And what kudos exactly has he earned from his, as Mike says "sticking his beak into some war or other" apart from more photo opportunities? Because, lets be right - he'll have zilch influence on the outcome.
And to make the comparison, and whether you like it or not, GB is the acknowledged experienced statesman abroad, and what the likes of you call dithering, I call 'serious considering', and is preferable to bandwagon jumping - especially where it involves other people's misery and turmoil.
Jack Realms is right about Mercer.
But in his constituency, where he graces the electors with all of eighteen surgeries a year (which to be fair, may be testament to the satisfaction of the public with the government), and hangs onto power thanks to the weekly appreciation expressed by the local sycophantic paper, one does just question how much of his time is devoted to escorting tours to military graveyards around the world, to the detriment to his constituents.
Well considering Cameron ignores most of the 'rubbish and fantasy' given in interviews by Nadine Dorries MP one can say his Loyalty leaves a lot to be desired and Caroline Spelmanis unlucky . He obviously has his head buried in the sand !

You are quite correct Bob. Just as obviously, Tony let Gordon get away with being serially disloyal to Tony because Gordon was A MAN.
