Thanks to Terry Kelly for reminding me of this wonderful quote by Hubert Wolfe...
You cannot hope to bribe or twist, thank God, the British journalist. But, seeing what the man will do unbribed, there's no occasion to.
As an accurate condemnation of this rabble, Wolfe's quote is hard to beat. To think that many of the scribes who pen the drivel passed off as commentary in our daily newspaper columns share the same profession as the likes of the late James Cameron sends a shiver down my spine.
That's a wonderful quote. On of the most reprehensible thing that journos do is to present people such as James Cameron and Charles Wheeler as though they were typical of the trade rather than the honourable exceptions. Bu then journos seem to be trained to present the highly unusual as though it were commonplace. That's why people believe crime is going up when it's falling and that if they leave their comfy homes except by car they're almost certain to get killed...
