You've got to feel sorry for them, haven't you (hee hee). The Lib Dem leader Cleggy thinks he's doing a deal the principled thing and standing down to avoid David Davis embarrassing himself totally and losing his seat, and whadya know, the principled territorial SAS man goes and pisses on their chips:
"I'm sorry that Labour and the Liberal Democrats funked it, but we're still having a good argument and getting the issue raised."
What's with the insinuation that Clegg made some sort of backstage deal with Davis? I can't see the Lib Dems gaining anything out of this - strange sort of deal.
Truth is, Clegg had no other option. If he'd stood a candidate, he'd have been accused of hypocrisy. Since the Lib Dems are in 2nd place, and may just about have an outside chance of taking the seat or at least denting the Tory majority, he'd have been accused of putting the Lib Dems' electoral interests ahead of their political beliefs.

Crow all you like Piper!
Your sorry excuse for the Nazi Party were too frightened to even field a candidate to support their repressive and authoritarian proposals.
You know what's going to happen to New Labour at the General Election so get ready for the rest of your political life in obscurity because The New Nasty Labour Party, are going down....BIG style come the General Election.
At which point hopefully, the Labour Party will cease to exist.
And to think that I actually voted for you corrupt bastards in 1997.
