Central Library, (slight return)   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

Just a follow-up to my piece on the Birmingham Central Library, Bring in the Demolition Squad.

On The Stirrer site the Friends of the Central Library have reacted angrily to suggestions that the building should be demolished, and say they have won the argument that the library should be listed because of "the high architectural quality of the building."

It's part of history best forgotten concrete jungles. Then again in 100 years time the Time team will dig it up and say this was once a great bit of history.

Bob, it's a monstrosity! It should be preserved as a reminder that architects design buildings for their own egos rather than the benefit of the poor chumps who have to live with them year in and year out!
