Bob Piper has been a Labour Councillor for the Abbey
Ward in Sandwell, West Midlands, for nine years. He is a lifelong supporter of Aston Villa Football Club and a follower of Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
The views expressed here are mine in a personal capacity, not those of the Labour Party, Sandwell MBC, Aston Villa or Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Get it! Mine... just mine!
Strangely, this whipping seems to have been missed by the assembled journalists reporting the debate, although there was a reference on Newsnight last night to the Tory whips furiously working to get their MPs through the lobby to support their leader and reduce the time limits.
Sometimes, you can get a bit depressed and wonder whether it is all worth it. I have had a bit of that feeling these last few days. However, if you ever needed a reminder of what it is about the Tories we loath, there was a reminder on breakfast tv this morning. David Mellor was telling us all about his love for Chelsea. Yuuuck! Of course, earlier in the proceedings yesterday we had IDS and his thinly veiled attack on lesbian parents to remind us of what life could be like under the current bunch. Centre for Social Justice, my arse!
1What is wrong with David Mellor supporting Chelsea? Not sure I follow you there.
2-It has nothing to do with attacking lesbians its to do with concerns about conducting an experiment in Lesbian living and its effects on children. Personally I have been convinced that on balance that the advantages out weight the disadvantages but the arrogance of many of the pro Lesbian anti man lobby is a great temptation to dig your heels in.
3 I am happy with the hybrid embryos .
4 What I am disappointed about is the fact that at 24 weeks a girls can pull out a fully formed baby capable of living and chop it up because it does not suit her life style at that particular time . We are way way out of line here and Parliament specifically the Labour dominated Parliament is out of touch with feelings on this. I hoped that 20 weeks would be agreed .
The problem is that the entirely spurious debate about viability allows femi-nazis to clog up the air time with stats collected from their supporters in white coats . I am well aware how defenceless a new born baby is requiring 24 hours a day of attention to stay alive so I do not see the relevance .
You cannot go on sneering at people who have very reasonable worries and Parliament , in my view served us very badly on this issue . It will return and it will be won eventually.
How do you fancy killing a 24 week baby? I couldn?t and the majority of Doctors agree
I couldn't see anything wrong with the existing legislation as it stood. Don’t the government have more pressing matters to attend to in the middle of a credit crunch?
Oh yes, must remember how awful the Tories are! That will help.
newmania, I can only assume you posted those comments here by mistake. I don't recall posting anything one way or the other about abortion time limits, although the faux outrage and moral hysteria of the right surprises me not one jot. Where did you canvass the opinion of 'most' doctors, by the way, as the BMA hasn't debated abortion, but its general stance in all but the most extreme cases is to support 24 weeks. What was your methodology?
Wolfie... I'm unclear what your point actually is. The anti-abortionists placed amendments to the Bill on Fertilisation and Human Embryos. Are you suggesting that Parliament should have refused to debate them on the grounds that you were happy with the current limits and in any case, there's a credit crunch?
Wierd. I'm sure you've commented better in the past Wolfie.
if you need anything to put a bit of justified fire back into your belly just check out some of the comments in Iain Dale's report on the vote last night, and then Mad Nad's attack on Labour and Gordon Brown over the issue this morning.

I object to that fat oaf pretending to be a football fan, let alone a Chelsea fan.He murdered the 606 football phone in for a couple of years when he was host, he knew sod all about football.
1) He had previously said that he supported Fulham and clearly deserted them to chase glory.
2) The first time that his support became public knowledge was when it came out that he wore a replica shirt while having sex with some young lady. I can't see how the mental picture is anything but horrific to any rational mind.

"thinly veiled attack on lesbian parents"
I just call it 'supporting the family'.
