Bob Piper has been a Labour Councillor for the Abbey
Ward in Sandwell, West Midlands, for nine years. He is a lifelong supporter of Aston Villa Football Club and a follower of Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
The views expressed here are mine in a personal capacity, not those of the Labour Party, Sandwell MBC, Aston Villa or Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Get it! Mine... just mine!
One of the things I have always liked about the Labour Party is that you don't have to swallow the Party line. There is room for dissent, and as we often say, we are a broad church. Unlike the various Trotskyist sects or hard line CP'ers, we have a fairly open debate, and the disagreement is tolerated.
Of course, Iain Dale will bleat that no-one tells him what to write, and some people may even believe him. Personally, I don't think this spiteful series of attacks is anything other than a co-ordinated attack on any Conservative who happens to challenge the Cameron line. It is a sad sign for democracy, and a pathetic and demeaning position for a blogger to allow himself to be used in this way..
Now that really is funny. Let me get this straight, you seriously believe that CCHQ ordered me to write the Anderson piece, when Anderson has written nothing but fawning articles about David Cameron for the last three years?
Bob, mate. I am about as likely to take orders from them as you are to take orders from Labour HQ.
Doesn't really matter much whether you believe me or not, I suppose, but it happens to be the truth!
I never used to believe in a coalition Government until recently, when Blogs became of age.
I am most probably on the other side of politics than you Bob but I can see the value of a meeting of minds. Just to narrow it down to you and Iain Dale, you both come across as intelligent decent folk and make your debates without trying to trash each other. I have no doubt that any council being advised jointly by you two would benefit against the council with just the one voice.
No, Iain, if truth be told, I suspect you were not 'ordered' to write any of those things. As it happens I think that like many of those that get to hang on to the coat tails of those in power, you write what you think they want you to write. At the moment, that appears to be writing bitchy and fairly petty bits of spite about Conservatives who have a different take to your Master's voice.
It is a particularly nasty feature of most Tory bloggers these days and shows a lack of independent thought masquerading as 'discipline'.
Fred - we would just scratch each others eyes out!
One of the things I have always liked about the Labour Party is that you don't have to swallow the Party line.
Bob you cannot be serious. Throughout the 90s the Conservative Party tore itself apart over Europe meanwhile the Labour Party officially dropped socialism and everyone said…”we will obey” You yourself slavishly praise everything the Labour Party do ad if you are discovering the ability to make your own judgements it is a bit late in the day
If you had said "let slip the....pussy cats etc." I might have imagined you were making a witty reference to Julius Caesar. Is that what you meant?
That was a really silly post but as you cannot bear to defend Brown I suppose there is time to kill. There is nothing so un-English as a poor loser Bob and you are starting to sound like a very very poor loser. I would suggest you moderate the tone of peevish hysteria a little.
Newmania... (or is it newmana -are they the same person? The same illiteracy and ridiculous argument, certainly) you just don't grasp it, do you. You are the poor loser - 3 General Elections on the bounce, I recall.
As for me slavishly praising everything the Labour Party do... I know you can't write too good man, but clearly you don't read too well either. Just to start a little list for you... I've opposed the war in Iraq, ID cards, 42 day detention and the 10p tax cock up and I've argued for a referendum on the EU Treaty.
The Tories, in contrast, opposed our extra hospital spending, education spending, employment rights for workers, the working time directive, the minimum wage, and health and safety protection in the workplace.

the implosion of the labour party is a much sadder sign for democracy.
