In defence of robber Barons   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

Iain Dale has one of his more ridiculous pieces today suggesting Gordon Brown should have more respect for David Cameron's Arthur Daley approach to politics because one of his ancestors was a grocer. Presumably, if we can trace Cameron's aristocratic lineage back to some murderous robbing bastard, (highly likely I would have thought) Dale will be expecting Cameron to defend the honour of murderous thieves?

Anyone know the origin of the name Tory?

So are you saying all Salesmen are Arthur Daleys? That seems to be what Gordon Brown is saying. How insulting to the millions of salesmen all over the country.

No, Iain, just those smarmy buggers who try to flog you soiled goods as if they were new.

As good a definition of 'New' Labour as I have seen for a while

We all know what 'Tory' means but thanks, keeping alive 18th century traditions is not something we normally associate with Labour.

I have also travelled the length and breadth of this United Kingdom of ours both selling and training and no full well the important roll that 'salesmen' do and how hard they work and how stressed they get and how important they are.

They are not 'shallow'. Every time I visit my gym at our local Holiday Inn I see the bar full of men and women (drinking coffee) holding all manner of meetings. Whitbread have built up a chain of 500+ hotels to cope with demand from travelling businessmen/women. You think growth just happens 'endogenously'?

Dumb assed remarks like Browns and the attitude of gimboids like you show just how out of touch you are with modern Britain.

Tut Tut, Trevor, and there was me thinking it was Iain dale who was delving in to history. I'm sure you've scolded him too.

Know (sic) wonder the country is in a mess if we have salesman who are such humourless jerks.

The important thing about respectable salespeople is that they have some definable thing which they are selling, clearly described, specified, costs vs benefits, new features and traditional ones.

Cameron is a snake oil salesman at best. What he is selling does not do what it doesn't really say on the tin. Unless the tin says Horlicks.
