Are the Lib Dems helping the BNP?   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

Last year in a Sandwell by-election in Princes End Labour defeated the fascist BNP. In order to avoid diverting attention away from the fight against the fascists, the Green Party stood down and campaigned for a Labour victory. The Greens were chastised by the Lib Dem candidate in my own Ward, former blogger David Nickel, who assured everyone that... it is generally accepted across parties that the best way to keep the BNP out is to have as many candidates as possible.

Perversely, then, we are hearing that in one of the key marginals to be fought next month, Tividale Ward (won by the BNP with 33 votes in 2006)... the Lib Dems and the Tories are not fielding a candidate.

By their own reasoning.... does this mean the Lib Dems are aiming for a BNP victory?

Actually I think the governments failure on immigration policy is by far the biggest contributor to the BNP's success.

A rather browbeaten Tony Ward has executed a swift about turn and now says he'll do his best to put up a new Tory candidate...meanwhile the Lib Dems are nowhere to be seen.
