Would Cameron ditch his eurosceptics in exchange for power? You bet he would.   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

Political Betting has the latest spread betting information on a future general election outcome. Now, whilst these guides are about as useful and reliable as Gypsy Rose Lee's crystal ball on Blackpool seafront, it does show that the Tories are on target to be the largest party in the House of Commons.

What is apparent from those figures, given that Sinn Fein won't take up their seats and the way the other nationalist seats divvy up is anyone's guess, is that the only way the Tories could take control of Government would be with the consent of Cameron-lite Clegg.

Of course, despite the attractions of the trappings of power, Clegg will still have to sell any coalition deal to his somewhat less than united backbenchers. So Cameron would have to offer them something fairly substantial. In the past this has been a commitment to PR, but as neither of the two major parties have ever shown an inclination to be turkeys waiting for Christmas Day to arrive, it is almost certainly going to have to be something else.

My guess, should this scenario ever come about, is that Cameron will follow his own instincts and agree to drop any hostility to the EU. They've never shown any euroscepticism in office before, and this would give Cameron the 'cop-out' that he needs. He can just say... it is the only option we have... and blame his coalition partners for the compromise.

Would Cameron ditch his eurosceptics in exchange for power?

Would any politician not sell his soul or sacrifice his children on a pagan altar for power?

You're asking the wrong question, you need to be looking into things that Cameron just wont do and I suspect like Brown or Clegg they are few and far between.

I think the prospect of a Lib lab pact is considerably more likely in which case there would be no debate about Europe at all.
Meanwhile the Liberal Party are turning against this crazed project at grass roots and Clegg`s position is 'weak weak weak' .

None of this will happen. The Conservatives have to win outright but a sizeable majority in England will make Brown`s position untenable

In Wales we went up in arms when it was suggested Labour and the Tories make a pact, Labour would have sold out to the Tories to stay in power, the Lib Dem's walked away saying no thanks, Plaid wanted to make up a party it's self, and the Tories stated they would join Labour, and Labour said yes, we poured into the meetings and demanded we give up power first or return to the votes. But for a while Labour actually thought about a pact with the Tories, so who would have sold out who.

This week the AM's Assembly members have voted to say yes to an 8% pay rise, three Lib Dem's have stated, we work dam hard for our wages, we will take what we think is right, when asked about the working class like Bin men council workers nurses doctors, they stated yes they should have more too, but thats something else.

Pigs to the trough.

Cameron ditch his europhobes? Of course he would. You can bet if he was in office right now he'd be opposed to a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty too.
