Bob Piper has been a Labour councillor for the Abbey
Ward in Sandwell, West Midlands, for eight years. He is a lifelong supporter of Aston Villa Football Club and a follower of Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
The views expressed here are mine in a personal capacity, not those of the Labour Party, Sandwell MBC, Aston Villa or Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Get it! Mine... just mine!
Well I'd like the government to stop giving money to trade unions under the guise of 'modernising' them, seeing as they are perfectly capable of modernising themselves.
We've just had large scale redundancies at work and that saw a rush of people joining the union just in case. I'd have liked to have had that same support from the union but my conscience wouldn't allow me to join them because they donate money to Liebour.
I wonder if there's a discrimination case in that - people who have a consientious objection to funding Liebour are effectively barred from joining a union.
