Bob Piper has been a Labour Councillor for the Abbey
Ward in Sandwell, West Midlands, for nine years. He is a lifelong supporter of Aston Villa Football Club and a follower of Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
The views expressed here are mine in a personal capacity, not those of the Labour Party, Sandwell MBC, Aston Villa or Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Get it! Mine... just mine!
Last night we went to Andy Hamilton's 90th Birthday bash. Andy is a legend in these parts and he has run a jazz club in the Ward for over 25 years. Although he is often described as 'Birmingham's Andy Hamilton' he has been adopted by this corner of Sandwell as one of our own. I think I'll make some moves to get him the 'Freedom of Sandwell', that will get one across the brummies. Although whether he will want to drive his goats through the centre of West Bromwich is somewhat debatable .
Anyway, he was in fine fettle last night in front of a capacity audience. As I said to Mrs P. "I hope I can boogie like that when I'm 90," to which she replied, somewhat cruelly I thought, that as I was incapable of dancing two steps now, there seemed little prospect of learning in the intervening years.
All the best, Andy, we toasted you well last night.
