Iain Dale treats us to a shocking tale about Uttlesford District Council. Apparently this appalingly run District Council not only presided over a 1.8 million pound deficit which resulted in 21 staff being thrown out of their jobs, according to Dale the Finance Director (not the Chief Executive as Dale alleges) who was responsible has got a job as a consultant which could mean him giving advice to Uttlesford District Council.
What Dale doesn't do is tell you much about the Uttlesford District Council. An inquiry in to the Council's finances revealed:
"The council's capital and revenue reserves had been spent at an unsustainable rate; there had been a "complete absence of financial control by both council members and council officers"; financial officers had been promoted beyond their level of experience; there had been inappropriate budget assumptions and "mistakes in budget preparation which should not have occurred".
Pretty damning, you might think.
Oh, and by the way, another thing Iain Dale forgot to tell you....
Uttlesford District Council is comprised of: Conservatives: 26 seats, Liberal Democrats: 15 seats, Independents: 3 seats
