Breathtaking

Perhaps it’s something to do with my current attitude to politics, but this isn’t really turning into a football blog, honestly.
Birmingham City Chairman David Gold has hit out at the FA for appointing another foreign coach and he wants FIFA to make it “a legal requirement” for all footballing nations in the top 64 in the world to have to appoint a home-grown coach.
Mr Gold has just appointed a new manager for his own club and just to prove what an excellent pool of managers the FA had to choose from, Gold has appointed that well known Englishman…. Alex McLeish!

Bob, i think youll find the FA was under great pressure to appoint what we hope is a top coach.
Which Englishman would you have chosen as an England coach?
My choice would have been (No not Curbs)Big Sam.

  2. Bob,
Ask your former manager Ron Atkinson if Chairmen know anything about football.
Whether or not Jol deserved to go from my club with the results earlier this season, did Levy handle the whole saga with any dignity or finesse?
There are a few exceptions and I mean a few who live and breathe football and who really care about clubs and fans. Whether many of those are in the dog eat dog world that is the Premiership, would be the question. For all the stick she later got after her half time rant, at least Delia showed some passion. That’s what fans do!

Nick, you’re right, and very grateful we were too!
Rooster, I think the FA cocked-up by appointing McLaren as a backlash from Sven, and I wouldn’t have appointed an English coach. There are none suitably qualified in my opinion. But… if you press me, I think Steve Coppell’s achievements at Reading have been brilliant. No money, no stars, getting the best out of what he has got, I think it would be difficult to surpass. Is he an international manager who could handle the over paid over rated so-called superstars… I have my doubts.
So, Fabio it is. At least the Lampards and Gerrards can’t say “put your medals on the table” to him!

  4. Just to say I am glad that comments are working again.
Hopefully I get my computer back tomorrow.
Otherwise I have FA to say…

Have just discovered that Aston Villa defeated Sheffield FC 14-0 in the early 1880s. We obviously needed a foreign coach.

  6. It’s a very simple decision, really – you either want the England team to do well, or you don’t. If you want them to do well (myself included), get the best coach you can irrespective of where he was born.
