"When I was elected chair, although I won fair and square, some of the councillors never accepted it.
"I'm afraid that there is still an element of racism in the Conservative party.
"We were banned from having meetings at the Wednesbury club, and it was said to me that we would have the Muslim members taking over."
I have to say some Sandwell Conservatives I know as councillors are most definitely not racist, but some of the things you hear leave a nasty taste in the mouth.
we see the same phenomenon in the u.s.-those who would support the inclusion of god into the government...as long as it's not a hindu god, for example.
