Welcome back comrade...   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

A warm welcome back to the world of blogging to Cassilis after a lengthy break, and immediately reinstated on the sidebar. If you're in search of infighting, backbiting, sniping or taking the piss... Cassilis is probably not the best place for you. But if you are looking for an intelligent and reasonable analysis of political matters from a centre-right perspective, then if the past is anything to go by, he's a must read as far as I am concerned. The centre-right counterpoint to Skipper on the left. The fact that Cassilis doesn't give a damn about 'traffic' to his blog is highly refreshing, and it also implies he is writing because he thinks he has something to say, rather than to shove up the site meter statistics.

Thank you for highlighting this site Bob -a good read. Loved the quote from Orwell about language at the top. The decline of spoken language (and consequently written language) is really worrying. Still the other end of the coin- there are some words on this site that even Suzy Dent may struggle with. I understand what “taking the piss” means!

I do give a damn about traffic to my blog. This isn't to say that I don't care about the quality of my posts.

It used to be that I averaged 150 visits per day, this went up to 250, then slipped back down again before settling at around 250. One day I managed 1,300 on a cash for honours story, and another 1,070 on the McCanns soap opera. Normality resumed until last week. 2,275 on Friday, and over a 1,000 every day since.

It is an interesting story, and appears set to run and run. However, I wonder what the next story will be that sends loads of visitors to my blog?

I realise in the great scheme of things that my stats are minimal compared to some blogs. But, at the same time I cannot help but be impressed that over 50,000 people have come to see what I had to say. That's quite an audience for a study in a mid-terrace house in Hull.

I am chuffed that I have made my mark, and got up a few noses. If it wasn't for the stats, I wouldn't know how well I was doing. I think there is nothing worse than being creative and only oneself to enjoy it.

John, I think the stats are OK, but often bloggers become obsessed with them. To me they are of interest, but some people give the impression that visitors = quality. The News of the World is Britain's biggest selling newspaper. Enough said.
