So long mate   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

Exactly 30 years ago I was preparing to go off to Warwick University. I was stuck in a dead end job at GKN and a mate of mine at work, Pete, had enrolled at Aston and told me I could get to Uni if I tried. Well he was right, and I did, and Pete has been a good mate ever since, although we had drifted apart a bit the last couple of years.

Pete died at 5.am in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where he had been admitted suffering from cancer. There may be no blogging here for a while.

Bob, not spoken for a while but I always remember enjoying Pete's company when he came up to Manchester for matches or when we played at the Villa - also remeber his generosity in digging out obscure programmes to give me.

Still laugh at the story about him growing a beard after his holiday in Greece and being pulled up about it at work and his reply that he was growing it in the evening and not in works time!

Thanks for that, Si. I'd forgotten that story about the beard and it made me chuckle.

I hope everyone is OK up there, I must try and get up to the City game and we could have a jar.
