The Housing minister, Yvette Cooper, is planning a Green Paper that will herald a return to council house building by local authorities to provide affordable homes for those most in need.
About 10 years too late! I hope there are sufficient safeguards, though, to prevent the Tories trying to buy votes again with another housing bargain basement sale should they ever get their grubby hands on power again? It is interesting to see that once again New Labour's phobia about local democracy means they want the new build to go into Arms Length Management Organisations with no democratic accountability.
