Polls apart   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

According to The Independent's Political Editor, "The prospect of Gordon Brown calling an early general election receded after the latest monthly poll for The Independent gave the Tories a five-point lead over Labour." So, the media writers who decided we were going to have a snap election on the back of a MORI poll last week... have decided we are not going to have an election in the face of a different poll this week.

I often long for the 'good old days' when the job of newspaper journalists was to report the news, instead of employing political horoscope writers to give us their mumbo jumbo thoughts on what they think the news will be like in the future.

Bob, never make the mistake of refering to the Independant as a newspaper.

Remember this is the tatty organization that gave rise to "Fisking"

Actually, Gareth, Robert Fisk is probably my favourite foreign correspondent.

Funny how the Tories went into meltdown after the Mori poll and are now having a group hug after the CR poll.Cameron is the Tory's Neil Kinnock, without the charisma, poll ratings or electoral prospects...

Dear Bob

Perhaps you are as old as Methuselah, in which case I quite understand where you are coming from about these whipper-snapper journos. I quit freelancing thirty years ago and decided there were only three news organisations I could (in all conscience) work for - Reuters, the BBC and the FT. The first two ruled me in and I chose Reuters, and anyway the latter ruled me out.

What's changed? I'm not sure I'd bother with the Beeb, especially after the drivel about GB and the unions.

I'm glad you put "good old days" in quote marks, Bob, because I can't recall many good days except in Private Eye :)
