Is there a move by right-wing Tories to ditch David Cameron? The last couple of weeks have been disastrous for our old friends in the 'nasty party'. There they were, coasting to victory with smug Tory bloggers already counting the votes, smirking about their local government results and getting orgasmic every time an opinion poll showed them anything up to 10 points ahead of Labour, and Cameron's clear lead over Gordon Brown.

But as Harold said, "A week is a long time in politics", and the last two weeks must seem like an eternity to Tories.... and we're comfortably into the third one. The Tories have made much about Brown going awol whenever Blair did something unpopular.... but I found this sentence hidden away in an article on the grammar school fiasco in the Independent as the temperature rose spoke volumes:

'David Davis, the Shadow Home Secretary declined to comment on an issue outside his brief...'
Of course, in these days of search engines, it is not too difficult to find out why David Davis, still smarting from his defeat by Cameron in the leadership contest, would be reluctant to throw a lifebelt to his drowning leader. For those who have forgotten this commitment by Davis during the leadership campaign:
David Davis vowed yesterday to bring back grammar schools - part of a 'radical Conservative agenda' with which he hopes to overtake Tory leadership rival David Cameron in a make-or-break television debate this week.
It's a good job that the NHS is outside of David Davis' brief too, because that will also avoid him having to come to rescue Cameron on this one as the right wing Tories smell blood. No prizes for guessing who might possibly benefit from any such move.

Bob, you mainstream politicians think the world revolves around you with your Camerons and Blairs
Don't you know there is yet another political leadership battle going on that will effect the whole world!! (Well not today but 'tomorrow the world!!!')
I speak of course of the BNP leadership fight between the present leader whose opponents describe as an authoritarian, anti-democratic, dictator - which they quite like - but whose major failing is that he is ‘too liberal’ i.e. he let a Jew into the party - and a challenger who wants to return the good old days of being an open, anti-semtic bunch of neo-nazis thugs instead of having to wear cheap suits while pretending to be democrats.
To add to this everyday discourse in the world of the political deranged , websites have appeared showing pornographic images of senior members of the party and allegations abound of members' money being used to line private pockets while recriminations rage over the BNP's awful election results.
Well frankly Bob, I am glad they turned my membership down (seems, I could prove I wasn’t mad - Damn that piece of paper!! ) because even with my vast experience of the twilight zone, I couldn’t choose between these two looney tunes.
But I wonder which way the BNP members on Sandwell council will be casting their votes?
Will it be for the convicted criminal who let a Jew join a party founded by a neo-nazi while still maintaining the holocaust is a myth, or is it for the man whose supporters have posted pornographic images of his opponents family and friends on the internet while he no doubt longs for the return of jackboots and tight tailored leather coats?
Ohh, if only mainstream politics could be this cerebral.
