camera.jpg90,000 police officers or police staff were caught speeding last year. Only 1 in 4 of them were flashing blue emergency lights.

So.... guess how many of the 90,000 were fined or had points on their licence?

354 according to this article.

Now I'm sure quite a lot of them were necessary, and if my house was being burgled I'm not sure I would want the police to be hanging around. But the bit that caught my eye was the part that said ..."and staff". I can't readily think of any reason why police staff would have to speed or jump the lights, can you?

Indeed Bob.

I recently saw a copper in a marked car leaving the car park at the Scott Arms who couldn't be bothered to turn left and then double back on himself to get to the lights, so he turned right through the no-entry signs.

He was obviously in no hurry as he sat at the lights next to me.

As a cyclist road safety is quite an interest of mine. I felt quite let down by this copper.

I'd be gutted if I was one of the 354 to be prosecuted!

Bob, there's no chance the Police would rush around to your place if it was being burgled. It's not a high enough priority...

Actually, in fairness, Snafu the police did come fairly promptly when I was last burgled (about 8 years ago). Not that they caught the scrotes who did it mind you.

Bob, nothing wrong with a little bit of wealth re-distribution!

I thought Tony Blair was going to be tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime ten years ago...
