Good News in Sandwell (& Abbey Ward)   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

A great result for Labour in Abbey Ward tonight:

Steve Eling (Lab) 1835
David Nikel (Lib Dem) 810
Ewart Johnson (Con) 725

So, whilst our opponents concentrated on running the Ward and its 3 Labour councillors down, we continued to concentrate on those things our residents have to be proud of in the area. The result: a 1,000 + majority over the nearest opposition. I'll give a much fuller thank you to all of our helpers tomorrow.

In addition, on so-called 'Labour Meltdown' night, the Sandwell Labour Group went from 50 seats to 51, and best news of the lot.... the fascists lost in every ward in which they stood, despite their prediction that this was going to be their breakthrough year! Well done to all of the good citizens of Sandwell, whichever party other than the fascists they supported , for kicking the BNP into touch.

Congratulations to Steve on the win. I'm pleased with second place first time out, and absolutely delighted with the BNP's performance (or lack of)

Hopefully many of their "helpers" will be frustrated at the lack of progress and disappear.

Well done kid unfortunately we weren't so succesful in sunny Walsall. We lost Blakenall to the Dipsticks, Darlaston South to the Botts and Pleck to the kitten killers. Robbie refused a recount in Blakenall on the grounds that "the counters have had a long hard day and it ain't fair to keep them up any longer" - WE LOST BY 15 VOTES for F*** sake. It really has become the politics of the madhouse out here and I just despair - the only way to survive today is just to stay well and truly rat arsed!!!
Enjoy Vietnam I am off to Egypt with the old man who managed to be thoroughly offensive to everybody last night and at one stage I had to step in to stop a pretty ugly row between him and Sean Coughlan - oh ain't it just one big barrel of laughs eh?

Sounds like 100% good news then?

I sat beside the wireless last night braced for BNP gains, and as far as I can see, it's largely been a crap night for them.

David, thanks for that. You fought a good campaign and I told Martyn Smith that he should give you a crack at a winnable seat because you would be an asset to the Lib Dems on the Council, but Martyn said it was your decision to contest Abbey. That's creditable, but in all honesty, probably foolish. To put in all the work you did for 100 or so more votes than Prior got for doing nothing means you had better be in this for the long haul. As I'm sure you know, trying to overturn established (and very hard working) councillors is very, very difficult indeed.

Anyway... well done. Our 'election 2008' campaign starts today.

The hard work starts now Bob. Great night but we have lots to do. Missed you at the count suffering with the back door trot as me granny would say and talking of toilets I heard the fascists scuttled away after their 'success'. Anyway hope you both enjoy your sojourn to Vietnam and I will see you on your return.

Thanks Mick... now you know how I felt last week, although I don't normally associate you with trots! See you in a couple of weeks.

Great news Bob. Good to see the kind words from David Nikel also. Always good to be magnanimous in defeat I suppose. Anyhow enjoy your holidays!

Yup... Congratulations Bob. Everyone likes to see the BNP fail. Still, you bucked the trend. A bit of a kicking for Labour Everywhere else!
