Cameron continues to search for that Clause 4 moment   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

There is clearly a strategy within the Conservative Party to try to find a major plank of party policy that David Cameron can throw overboard and 'take-on' the party grassroots to show that the nasty party is no more. He dabbled with it at Party conference last year when he welcomed homosexuals into the party, which nearly led to Thatcher's grannies at the back dropping their knitting needles.

Well.... has he found his Clause 4 moment? Conservative Home's Tim Montgomerie appeared on the Today programme this morning to talk about David Cameron's the Conservative Party's policy change on grammar schools (you can hear his contribution here on the Listen Again page). Apparently a staggering 73% of Tories are opposed to the change, but Cameron knows best.... he thinks they are delusional!

I'm staggered that 27% oppose it! It's good to see a privately educated elite within the Conservative Party doing their best to reduce social mobility even more than Labour.

What hope is there for the bright child with working class parents now!?!

PS The clause 4 comparison is ridiculous. The nationalisation of British industry was always a ridiculous idea, just look at how successful Soviet Russia is economically!

By contrast, evidence suggests that Grammar schools stretch the brightest children more than Comprehensive schools could ever manage. How will the future middle classes be created so that it can be taxed to destruction to fund bloated public sector pensions and the NHS!?!

Snafu, if you went to grammar school they were obviously wasting their time. 73% oppose it, not 27%!
