Tony Blair's place in history   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

Paul Linford on The Observer's 'The Blair Years' (which through a combination of sunshine and ale I read as 'The Blairy Ears' at a first glance, which seemed a peculiar choice for a whole colour supplement). I mst say I agree with Paul's view that Blair's place in history may be best summed up by historian Dominic Sandbrook, who wrote:

"Truly great Prime Ministers challenge the status quo. They do not simply accept it. Blair seems destined to be remembered therefore as a consummately skilled political operator with brilliant tactical instincts but no radical or compelling long-term vision."

What - he'll be remembered as Harold Wilson?

In British political history he'll be remembered as the PM that broke the union.

In the age of the consumer he knew how to sell

He was one big focus group - it would have almost worked too - except on THE most important issue he failed to listen.

Blair's legacy will be an unelectable Labour Party for a generation. Whatever happened to "Things can only get better"!?!

Tragically, neither of the other major parties deserve to be in Government either though!

The thing is, snafu, the latter point may negate the former, but I know what you mean.

Blair's legacy will be a totalitarian Britain and genocide in Iraq.
