OK… the title of this posting may be designed to increase traffic during a quiet holiday. However, I find it remarkably chivalrous of Iain Dale to come to the rescue of the honour of two young women who had a three-in-a-bed romp with an SNP MP. It’s a Labour smear campaign, squeals Dale, who of course, would never even dream of slithering so low as to attempt to smear a politician, would he? Well, this smear campaign run by the “Labour supporting Sunday Mail” (errm, and the Tory supporting Times, and that bastion of socialism the Daily Mail) is going to backfire on the Sunday Mail according to our intrepid Dale, because the families of the two teenagers romping in the bed of a man twice their age who’s wife was pregnant at the time, say the story is “exageratted and inaccurate.” As MandyRice Davies might have said, they would say that, wouldn’t they.
Well, given that the man admitted the incident took place, and one of the women is quoted as saying… “We both kissed him and there was heavy petting. He was excited but we did not have full sex — we were all too drunk.”, perhaps someone would tell us whether that was accurate or not, because whether it took place in or out of Shetland seems not to be a terribly material point of accuracy.
You don’t suppose Iain is trying to cuddle the Tories up to the SNP in the hope that the two may be able to do a bit of post-election kissing and heavy petting themselves now… do you? You cynics.

If only I were that influential, Bob! No, the truth is that this story is as old as the hills and was rolled out on purpose during the Scottish elections by the Labour smear machine. And you know it.
Wouldn’t doubt it for a second… any more than I doubt that the Tories & Lib Dems do exactly the same thing… and you are one of the biggest exponents of the Tory smear machine, Iain. Which makes the holier-than-thou act look a bit flimsy.
Good post, and quite agree with your comment Bob. The tories and the lib dems would jump on something like this if it would benefit them.
Off topic: As a middle-aged white male councillor Bob, will you be standing down at the next election to make way for a younger, female ethnic minority councillor!?!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6540081.stm
Old as the hills? Not seen it before. Not full sex? Is that a Clinton-esque reference to oral or manual stimulation. Really Iain you have managed to rake up a fading story into an ongoing saga as several bloggers have commented … was going to let it go, but now Dale has brought it up again … etc. Well done Bob. I’ve not blogged it yet. But now I will. How a Dale “Boomerang” becomes an Dale “Own Goal”.
Snafu… should my local party branch decide that is what they want, then yes, I will. We already have a situation in Sandwell designed to give us a balanced Labour Group.
Self-righteous indignation from an old gossip like Iain is always a joy to behold! Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention…
PS Did you catch my anti-Kettle, anti-golf letter in the Guardian? Since learning from his allegedly splendid blog that it’s one of Iain’s passions, I’ve become even more suspicious of this individualistic pastime. And I can’t stand yappy Jack Russells. Tolerance is a wonderful thing, isn’t it?!
As I understand it, the girls were not underage to give consent to sex. Lucky him. Shame too drunk to take advantage. Old enough for sex, but not old enough to get drunk. Shame on him for cheating on his wife. An interesting interlude whilst we are waiting for another development in the main feature, the cash for honours scandal…
Will this encourage other politicians to highlight wrong doing within the highest levels of Government or a warning shot to politicians not to challenge the status quo?
…or gossip mongers not to get on their high horse about… errrm, gossip.
Bob, while I believe that this story was only brought out now for maximum political effect, I don’t see that that is any different from what every other political party does. I’m sure if the Conservatives had whiff of a scandal about a Labour politician, they would not hesitate to use it at an opportune moment to help their case. That’s politics. Maybe it’s a cynical view, but there you are.
As such, I don’t have much sympathy with those complaining that the news was leaked by Labour etc. It may well have been. In fact, it most likely was. My view is, if Angus MacNeil had behaved properly in the first place, Labour would not have had anything to leak.
Well said, Bel, I think that sums it up nicely.
So a Newspaper that supports Nu-Labour drags up a story that is 2 years old, concerning an MP who initiated the biggest corruption scandal about certain Nu-Labour politicians and “friends” and th comment is made:…”My view is, if Angus MacNeil had behaved properly in the first place”
Blind allegiance is so revealing.
Nu-Labour….Nu-Low.
Sadly, Fubar, for your little theory, Bel is a conservative. Still, no harm in people trying to make a bit of political capital, and I won’t blame you for trying.
I’d have thought his getting too close to a daughter of one of the Queen’s Chaplains would do the most harm to his nationalist credentials.
