Back to the Future

Tom Watson enjoys the delicious irony of Charles Clarke being the special guest of the Labour History Group. Whilst I agree that the Milburn-Clarke call for a debate on Labour’s future is probably really aimed at consideration of the future of Alan Milburn and Charles Clarke, perhaps Labour’s future would be better served if more MPs were aware of the Party’s historical roots. As Smokes says in the Intro to the great Misty in Roots album…

“When we trod this land, we walk for one reason … to try to help another man think for himself. The music of our hearts is roots music, music which recalls history, because without the knowledge of your history, you cannot determine your destiny: the music about the present, because if you are not conscious about the present, you’re like a cabbage in this society.”
