Another step on the road to Damascus   » Permalink  |  TrackBack (0)

Roy Hattersley used to delight in repeating Gerald Kaufmann's barbed remark about Tony Benn's move to left as he got older, saying that he "immatured with age". Well, what goes around, comes around. I used to think Roy appeared to be on the left of the Party because he stood still whilst Blair dragged the Party to the right. Obviously that is not true, because in another sensible move, Roy is now a 'ban the bomb' man!

Nay. An unreconstructed Wednesday man I think.

It was Harold Wilson that said of Tony Benn "he immatures with age".

Roy has never been seen at Sheffield FC. but he is very welcome. It is Richard Caborn the Sheffield United fan, whom we see.
Roy's claim that he has stood still whilst New Labour rushed past him to the right and made him look like a lefty, is non-sense. He moved to the left when he become a media pundit, rather than a leading Labour politician. He has done good work in his re-constituted form. But what a pity that he missed his main chance when Deputy Leader.

David, you are absolutely right... as are you, as so often, Harry.
