When the rozzers have finished scutting around the Blair's bins looking for memos authorising payments in exchange for a life in the House of Bores, why don't they get involved in some real police work and let's have a full investigation of the claims that loyalist death squads were paid by the taxpayers to murder people in Ireland? It certainly raises some questions, such as;
When the police ombudsman says this was done with "the knowledge and support at the highest level of the Royal Ulster Constabulary and the Police Service of Northern Ireland” why is there to be no action taken?
Why are six very senior officers of the RUC allowed to refuse to answer questions on the subject of murder... and if they do, should we not be allowed to 'draw an inference from their silence' as the police caution tells us?
Why is 'Sir' Ronnie Flanagan, the head of the RUC at the time (so presumably "at the highest level") still acting as a senior adviser to John Reid on policing?
How much did the Thatcher/Major Governments know about this policy?
It's OK for Hain and Blair to say "this was all in the past and we've put it right now" (nice to see if that defence stands up in court if 'cash for peerages' ever gets that far)... but two of the officers implicated in the Ombudsman's report are still serving in the Police Service of Northern Ireland!
THIS today from Culture Northern Ireland made me smile at least!
